Snippets & Trivia
( Bits of Interest)

Our 1959 classmate Judy Tucker Arnett's parents attended Wilson between 1929-1934, and had these pictures of the older campanile (bell tower) in their yearbooks. Judy's sister, Linda Tucker Wride, now living in Utah, is web editor for the class of '63 and very generously sent me scanned copies to add to our site. Their brother, Gary, class of "60, who married my sister Liz Hardesty Tucker, class of 64, keep on their mantle piece the Tucker grandparents' clock that stopped on the day of the earthquake, and Linda's twin sister Leslie Tucker Walker, now living in Illinois, and her husband, Ron, in 1971?, while on a trip to visit old haunts of Graham Greene, came to see me and my now ex-husband while we lived in England. Thank you Linda, Ethel-Don (their parents), Gary, Leslie, and Judy (for being our classmate and tying us all together). Also, our four parents are/were friends, our dads, and now Gary, were/is member/s of the LBYC Tuna Club where we '59ers had our 50th Reunion. Ta-dah!

Susan Ward Gerhardt's Crock Pot Turkey
Liss: I baked my turkey upside down! Ack!
Susan: I always do my upside down. I have a fail safe recipe that’s always good and easy: Combine 1 can of whole cranberry sauce with a half cup of orange juice and a pkg. of dried onion soup. The recipe is for a turkey breast with bones in. Put the breast in the crock pot first and then pour the mixture over it. Cook for 6-7 hours.
Liss: Great and easy idea - thanks!, and another M.B. resident who walks her dog same time as I do told me falling juices from the back-side-up turkey make the white meat really juicey. This turned out to be true, only she and I used the oven. But, I brined mine first (for 16 hours as it happened) and then got told off for brining a Kosher bird. Hey, but the K-bird had no giblets, only a neck separate. I always wonder what to do with the gibs anyway b/c I hate to deal with them for gravy. I bought Trader Joe's already boxed gravy this year - Yummm!
